MOFFETT Dundalk is participating in the celebration of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED, www.inwed.org.uk) this year where we are highlighting some of the brilliant women in our organisation.

We took the opportunity to speak with Anne Sheridan, our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager in Dundalk.

Anne is responsible for ensuring safe systems of work, safety training and for ensuring that MOFFETT is meeting its legal safety requirements as well as ensuring that the company is meeting all the requirements for environmental risks. Anne knew MOFFETT from a previous role and when the company approached her to come and work for them she said YES!

What Anne likes the most with her job is the interaction with all people on site from all aspects of the job and influencing the safety of the site. Anne has some great ideas about how we can attract more women engineers to work with MOFFETT for example, by encouraging college graduates to come on site for work experience. We have a great college in Dundalk offering multiple engineering courses. Our engineers could also go to high schools to talk about their careers to inspire pupils.

Anne says any engineering role could be taken on by a woman but the working hours can be an obstacle, so flexible working is key to getting mothers back into the workplace.
Her advice, as a role model for younger women and to women starting their career in engineering is to get as much wider experience in life and work before you settle into a longer term role. It sets you up with better people and coping skills!

We end this interview by asking Anne; If you could be one of our MOFFETT Truck Mounted ForkLifts for one day, which product would you be and what values would you bring to the customer?

I would be the MOFFETT M8 NX; versatile and reliable!
