Engine Control by Hiab

Maximize control and minimize emission and noise

Engine Control is an intelligent solution, available for all remote operated HIAB and EFFER loader cranes powered by the SPACEevo control system technology, that optimizes how power is requested from the truck engine during load handling. Instead of operating at a constant high RPM, the system continuously adjusts engine speed to match the crane’s real-time hydraulic demand.

The result is smarter energy use: the engine runs only when work is being performed, unnecessary over-revving is eliminated, and power delivery remains smooth, responsive, and efficient throughout the entire lifting cycle.

How it works and why it matters

With rising fuel costs and stricter environmental regulations, unnecessary idling and over-revving are no longer acceptable. The Engine Control feature automatically manages your truck’s engine power - delivering exactly what the crane needs, precisely when it’s needed.

By continuously matching engine performance to real hydraulic demand, Engine Control reduces idle time, limits excessive RPM, and can deliver diesel fuel savings of up to 40%* - without compromising speed, precision, or lifting performance.

The Engine Control functionality is based on two features:

Automatic Start/Stop
No idling, no wasted fuel. The engine shuts down automatically when the crane is inactive and restarts instantly the moment you move a control.

Dynamic RPM Control
Power that adapts in real time. Engine speed automatically adjusts to each maneuver's hydraulic demand, reducing rev spikes, fuel consumption, and noise.

*Exact result depends on the configuration.
In this example, a small fixed pump is used and all engine control features are enabled.

Enhance operator comfort and safety

Noise is an often-overlooked risk that contributes to fatigue and stress. Engine Control significantly lowers average engine RPM and reduces hydraulic pressure surges, creating a calmer, more controlled working environment. Lower noise levels improve communication between the operator and ground crew—supporting safer, more efficient operations.

Lower fuel costs and  longer engine life

Fuel is one of the largest operating costs for any fleet. By combining Automatic Start/Stop with Dynamic RPM Control, Engine Control can reduce diesel consumption by up to 40%*. At the same time, limiting excessive RPM reduces mechanical stress on the truck engine, helping extend service intervals and overall engine life.

*Exact result depends on the configuration. In this example, a small fixed pump is used and all engine control features are enabled.

Comply with emission and noise regulations

Meet increasingly strict requirements for CO₂ emissions, noise limits, and green tender criteria. Whether working in city centres, residential areas, or restricted zones, reduced emissions and lower noise levels help position your business as a responsible and preferred logistics partner.
