Demountables production in China where our factory produces MULTILIFT hooklifts for the Asian markets is one of my responsibilities. I am also the Local Manager for Hiab’s purchase department and the Factory Manager. I started working at Hiab’s Shanghai factory at the beginning of 2006, but I had already been with Hiab for 3 years as a Project Manager at the Multilift factory in Finland. I like the fact that Hiab offers opportunities to work in different countries.
China is a very interesting place to live and to work, and totally unlike Finland. I never know what new opportunities each day will bring. My work requires many different kinds of skills – having a technical background is a good start, but a basic understanding of economics and management is just as important. The basic things can be learned at school, but the Asian culture is something you must experience first-hand. My education as a Mechanical Engineer and my master’s degree in Industrial Engineering form a solid foundation for my work. This has been a very challenging and interesting year in China.
